Ride Description:
JUNE 5th
Departure and rendezvous:
I would like to rally at Rockies Diner (located on Overland between Orchard and Vista) on Thursday morning, and since one of our riders is coming in from out of town I would like to depart shortly after 10 am (kickstands up)
Routing:
As you are aware the intent is to show up for the first annual KLIM Rally/Gathering so I would like for all to make it, therefore, Dual sport means both pavement and dirt and the routing should accommodate larger bikes so that said.
We will take Blacks Creek-mayfield over to highway 20 pavement to turn off for Pine Featherville where it will turn to gravel (aka FS227) dropping us out around Fairfield. It then back on pavement to Crater of the Moon where we need to get a Scavenger picture. I would like to finish out the day in Arco and stay at the KOA campground there (hot shower and grassy area for tents or small Cabin your choice. You can cook or eat at one of the local restaurants.
Friday, We can make a run up to Mesa Falls couple of back roads and if time is permitting ride the old rail road grad from Ashton to Yellowstone, or perhaps that can be done Saturday. Remember the intent is to arrive before 5 PM to check in and go set up camp. We can talk later but there are some great roads to ride over there. On the return I will try to hit some Challenge Points
May 26, Moving the departure up to Thursday the 9th to allow for more exploring and hitting the Challenge points on the east side.
I am heading over to the First Annual KLIM scavenger Hunt/Rally being put on in Rigby. Was wondering if there are any other souls with a little free time, this would also be an excellent opportunity to knock out some 2011 Challenge points. Details are sketchy on routing as I need to put it together, but I am going over on the 990 so it will be a mix of dirt and pavement.
May 23
UPDATE. Due to the unseasonably cool wet spring we are having and someone actually opted in this route will be a mixed bag of dirt and pavement. I'll keep an eye out on Dollarhide but appears with over 5 feet of snow it's a no go.
Sooo.. The route so far is Blacks Creek to immigrant road highway 20 ride 20 to Pine Featherville road to Pine-Featherville-Baumgarner drop down to Fairfield then slab to Crater of the Moon. On towards Arco hit dirt again on the Arco-Minidoka road ride around the Big Southern Butte bringing us into Blackfoot with a short slab to Rigby.
If we leave Thursday afternoon we'll camp someplace along the way rolling into Rigby Friday. If we leave Friday it'll be more pavement to get there by check in time.
REMEMBER those who come along be self sufficient i.e. good tires, tire repair material and know how to fix a flat. Bike in decent mechanical condition etc.
more to come.
