Level 3 rides will include rutted double track, and uneven roads. These may be rocky and difficult at times. A 1200GS or similar bike will feel heavy in this terrain, and will require an experienced rider. A moderate rider on a 650cc bike will be able to maintain 20 to 30 m.p.h. without a load. Little or no single track will be present on a level 3 ride. You may encounter moderate water crossings (less than knee high). Expect higher average speeds on easy sections of the route.

Update, 9/22
looks like the rain stayed East on the Steens. It should be a good ride, see you in the morning.
Hi, I'm putting together a Steens ride for September. I'm working out the details and will add later. I'm thinking 3 night, going through Silver city, down into Three forks, camping near hot springs each night. I will post fuel range needed when I get more details..... Stay tuned in for more....

Ride Description:
This ride will follow the Idaho Backcountry Discovery Route. We will be able to pick up a few challenge points along the way.
Meeting place will be the Burger King/Chevron on Gowen Rd near the freeway. We will be departing at 9:00AM, so be there early if you want to get some breakfast.
I do plan to take a meandering route back and pick up the challenge sites up north. That will add 235 miles to the return route, but we should be able to fit it all into the 9 days that are scheduled.

Ride Description:
The plan for this ride is to head up the Middle fork of the Boise. We might go to Atlanta or we might try to hop over to the North Fork and Idaho City. Another option would be to go over to Prarie. It will depend on how much snow we get this week. If we go into Atlanta, we can get lunch there. Idaho City and Prarie would offer the possibility of lunch also.
Atlanta and back is about 180 miles. There is no fuel along the way, so you will need to be ready for up to 200 miles range.
